Problems with the mass air flow (MAF) sensor causing the code P0171 are fairly common in many vehicles. Sometimes the mass air flow sensor just gets dirty and gives false air flow readings causing the engine to run lean. Cleaning the air flow sensor may help temporarily; the proper repair involves replacing the faulty mass air flow sensor. Jul 28, 2020 · Unscrew the oxygen sensor using a ratchet wrench. The easiest way to detach the sensor is by using a 3 ⁄ 8 in (0.95 cm) ratchet wrench fit with a 7 ⁄ 8 in (2.2 cm) oxygen sensor socket. If you don’t have one, try using an open end wrench. Fit the wrench over the sensor where it plugs into the exhaust line.

Your vehicle has two oxygen sensors. One is located before the catalytic converter and one is located just after the catalytic converter. As you may know the oxygen sensors which are part of your emissions system read exhaust gases to determine whether or not the appropriate amount of oxygen is present in the exhaust. I have a 2002 grand am V6 that has the P0420 code. I had the catalytic converter replaced in july of 2009 and the front O2 sensor replaced a few months ago. I have not replaced the rear O2 sensor. I have read that having an after- market cat converter installed can cause that code to pop up even thought it is running efficiently.

However, some vehicles dispense with the need for two temperature sensors by using just one sensor to do both tasks. If there are two sensors, one of them is the coolant temperature sensor while the other is more correctly called the coolant temperature sending unit, which sends information from the control unit to the dashboard of the car. 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Oxygen Sensor Your engine's performance depends on the right air-fuel ratio, and the 2016 Malibu O2 sensor helps your ECU keep tabs on this ratio so things run smoothly. My car was making noise and ran really ruff, I took it in to Chevy dealer and they pinpointed that my exhaust manifold had a crack in it and my o2 sensor that connects to that part was blown out and the o2 sensors covering had burned away. This did fix the problem, plus I had to purchase a new o2 sensor. MALIBU HYBRID P015B I have a 2017 Malibu Hybrid that has a P015b code.
